Bringing joy to unexpected places ! Just LOVE seeing art outside of traditional exhibition spaces, how it can transform an environment and lift people’s mood. Interestingly, art in public spaces such as hotels is often where it becomes most loved and appreciated... Brightening up a grey Monday with a look back at our past project on Merchants Way, London… 2250 participants, 45 days of activity, 29 local artists and arts organisations commissioned, 7 festival partners, 4 seasons, 3 alcoves, 1 interesting space! Every client, space or venue is different and requires a different approach to engaging the public with culture. For this pathway between the new Nine Elms tube station and @marketflowers we created a nature focused seasonal calendar of arts activities around a strategy which looked to create, test, and incubate. Utilising the small alcove spaces in the beautiful hoarding designed by @anna_nicolo, we developed a bright, fun and accessible programme. We worked with a hyper local group of creatives to delivered a mix of changing installations, dance and music performances, printmaking workshops, planting and flower arranging, mosaic making, ceramics and literature. Did you hear the news…? The much-loved alternative garden festival @thechelseafringe will not be happening this May:( Understanderably, after 12 years, the team have decided it’s time to finish up - or at least take a break - in 2024. They’ll be sorely missed but new adventures await. More info on the website www.chelseafringe.com I feel so proud and privileged to have been part of the volunteer festival team since back in 2012, and grateful for all the fantastic people and places I encountered along the way. Run by an incredibly generous, creative and talented group of people, from all walks of life, the festival annually bought together activities which highlighted so many topics close to my heart. From art and health, to food and performance, greening and the environment, the Chelsea Fringe encompassed it all, and in such a beautifully accessible, friendly, and fun way. Even the coordination meetings were a joy to attend! Thank you to Tim Richardson and co for trusting me to coordinate and curate some amazing projects in incredible London spaces, giving me the chance to work alongside fantastic landowners, designers and community groups. Check out it for events near you… @londonartsandhealth A lot of conversations have been happening during Mental Health Awareness month around the part creativity and nature have to play in our generally well-being... You don’t have to be ‘good at art’ to be creative - dancing, gardening, cooking, writing are all ways of expressing yourself - just go for it:) If this stuff is close to your heart you might be interested in doing a Mental Health First Aid course run by arts organisations like @art4spacecommunity.
